Me and My Boat…
For the past few years I have been fishing in a Warrior 165 and for those of you who are keen on boat fishing I can tell you that the 165 is a heck of a fishing boat. Over the years I have travelled extensively with the Warrior – from the Severn to the Norwegian Fjords – and I have enjoyed some great adventures.
.
There are several things about the Warrior that set it apart from the competition in my view: deck space, stability and reliability. The most severe conditions pose no problem to the 165 and I once fished on Lake Windermere when the winds were blowing at 70 mph!
The Warrior cuts through a wave really nicely and does not roll as much as other boats I have fished in. At anchor, it is very, very stable with minimal roll and it makes a wonderful platform for static styles of fishing, especially dead baiting.

The lay out of the deck maximises space available to the angler and the presence of the short cuddy on the front provides just the right amount of protection when the weather turns nasty.
Powered by a 50hp Honda, the boat will clip along at over twenty-eight miles per hour, achieving plane very quickly and exhibiting supreme handling even at this speed.

The engine performs beautifully in all conditions, either at speed or when trolling on tickover (you would be hard pushed to hear it!)
This year, for the first time, I took the Warrior out to Norway on the ferry. Travelling from Bergen to Trondheim, just getting the vesselover the Jutenheim mountains was an adventure in itself. Yet, the boat is so easy to tow and even when snow blizzards blew up, I chugged on and completed the journey.
With a pair of Cannon downriggers fitted, I was able to fish the fjords during the summer, downriging spoons for big coalfish at depths up to two hundred feet. Along with my wife, Anne Marit, we had great sport for big coalfish, landing lots of fish between fourteen and twenty-six pounds.

A pair of side-planer boards have been added to the downriggers, allowing me to fish a spread of lures when I’m on the big waters.
My latest addition to the boat is a new echo sounder made by Northstar ( a asubsidiary of Simrad). This is a stunning echo sounder and GPS unit that allows you to download detailed ocean maps. The echo sounder is out of this world with stunning detail and amazing sensitivity.
I honesly don’t know where I would be without my Warrior and over the years the boat has become a trusted companion that has allowed me to experience truly fantastic fishing.
