Me and the Duke…
I’m always being asked about my good friend Mick Brown, aka ‘the Duke.’ Between us we’ve made a ton of tv programmes and people are often curious about our off-screen relationship.
How Long have you known Mick?
Over twenty years. We were friends long, long before we began filming together.
What’s he Like?
Just like he is on telly. Mick’s a quiet unassuming guy with a wicked sense of humour. He’s rough as a bear’s arse but a true gentleman all the same.

Do You Still See Each other?
Yes we do. I speak to the Duke at least once a week on the phone and we get together as much as we can. We love fishing together more than we enjoy filming and we make a great team. Mick’s a loner by nature but we get on really well. We’re close…
How Good an Angler is Mick?
He’s a good all-rounder with a love for all kinds of fishing. As a predator angler he’s exceptional – the best by a mile.
Will you Work Together Again?
We both hope so. We made some great tv together and we are kicking some ideas around as we speak. Let’s hope we can get it together with a new series soon…
Where Did the name ‘the Duke’ come from?
We were fooling around while filming one day and I called him ‘the Duke of Market Deeping.’ It stuck and nowadays he’s known as the Duke or ‘Sir Michael.’ Truth is that he’s a rough arse but he’s got real presence has Mick. He’s angling royalty these days, of course. Â
Do You Sleep Together?
All the time! Not in the biblical sense though… We do a lot of fishing from Mick’s old camper (the Arkansas Chug-a-Bug’) so that we can stay near the water. We just throw down some sleeping bags and keep each other awake by snoring and farting all night. It’s a wonder we survive the night sometimes…
Your Funniest Moment Together?
We’ve had some shining times on camera and even better ones off it. My happiest memories are going down the river in the boat with Mick and both of us singing our heads off. The songs are always silly and the humour very personal to both of us. Sometimes we just spend the whole day laughing.Â
Have You Ever Fallen Out?Â
No. We’ve had then odd moment when we are getting on each other’s nerves while in the middle of a film project but that’s natural when you spend weeks at a time working so closely with someone. We’ve never had a seriuos fall out and I don’t think that we ever will. Â
