Templedog Flies tied by Matt
I’ve enjoyed learning to tie flies in recent years and now I can tie just about anything from tiny dries up to big pike and sallwater patterns.
Here are a couple of Norwegian templedogs along with tying instructions.
Â
Fly: Heart of the Sunrise
This is a fly I designed myself for use on the Norwegian rivers. The combination of bright, sunburst colours and the golden brown topping is a real winner. This fly really lights up in the water and the coppery body and flash add a subtle extra note. The title comes from an old tune by ’Yes,’ a favourite band from my hippy youth days.

This is a classic Norwegian pattern, invented in 1872, given a facelift in recent years with the development of new materials. This is my version of the Green Highlander in a templedog style.Â
