Barbel - River Severn

Join Matt for an early morning cup of tea at his house in the Shropshire countryside before taking a short walk to the river, located just sixty yards from his front door. Fishing tak es place on a beautiful stretch of the river Severn that contains big shoals of hard fighting barbel.

Matt will teach you the methods for catching barbel on a big river using modern pellet and boilie baits, explaining rigs, how to play the fish and how to return them safely to the river. Fish of all sizes were caught on the 2006 trips, ranging from 2.5 lbs up to over double figures. One of Matt’s clients caught 2 doubles in a day! Autumn and winter barbel fishing available. Carp - Weston Park

Weston Park is the venue for a brand new three day trip with Matt. The lake is around seven or eight acres, located in the grounds of a beautiful country estate. The fishing here is exclusive and normally reserved for a small private syndicate but during the three day trips the lake is exclusively reserved for Matt and his guests. The average size of the carp in the lake is over twenty pounds with a good head of thirties.

After arriving on the first morning and being briefed about the lake over a welcome cup of tea, Matt will supervise a draw for swims. Six anglers will fish for three days with two overnight stays. Dinner will be arranged in the evening with one night reserved for a barbecue and Indian/Chinese food on the other evening. Matt will also organise a breakfast run for bacon and egg sandwiches.

With stunning scenery, Matt Hayes as your guide and plenty of big fish, this is the dream trip for keen carp anglers. Guests can also bring their partner for an additional fee. You will need to bring your own tackle and bivvy. Bait provided.

Carp - France in England

Join Matt at the stunning Watermark fishery near Cirencester for gravel pit carp fishing. This is a two day trip with an overnight stay on Bradley’s Lake, a huge mature gravel pit of several hundred acres. The lake is well-stocked with fish of all sizes with fish ranging from low double figures up to and over forty pounds.

With Matt and his team supervising events, the emphasis will be on improving your carp fishing skills and teaching you to fish accurately on a large stillwater. In the evening barbecue food will be provided and guests can either wind in to get some sleep or fish all night.

This is a real exclusive – the chance for four anglers to share a weekend’s predator fishing with angling’s most famous double act. A genuine pike fishing tutorial weekend, you will be guided through a full repertoire of techniques for catching pike including bait, lure and fly with Matt and Mick as your guides.

Fly fishing for pike is becoming increasingly popular and Matt Hayes is an expert with fish to over thirty pounds on fly to his credit and numerous twenty pounders.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about the tackle and lines required for pike fishing, fly design, how to strip the flies and, of course, how to play and release fish. These trips will take place in Spring only and tackle can be provided.

Matt Hayes Predator Trips - Pike and Zander on the River Severn

Join Matt on his boat for the day as you set off down the lower Severn in search of pike and zander. This is a wonderful day out with beautiful scenery and the timeless atmosphere that being on the water brings with it. Both lure and fly fishing will be covered and the majority of trips see both species being caught by guests.

In really good conditions the lure fishing can be prolific but if the river is carrying extra water bait fishing is best. One of our most popular trips, guests have enjoyed days catching more than twenty predators in good conditions.

Winter Chub

Chub are Matt’s favourite fish. With fish to over seven pounds to his credit, you could not be in better hands when seeking chub on a winter river. The venue is the upper great Ouse near to Buckingham where Matt will take you on a winter chub session.

Light rods, SSG link legers and fishing with bread and cheesepaste this is chub fishing the classic way – big fish being the target (four pounds plus the average size on the Ouse). Bait provided.
